WATERCOLOR

Intro to Watercolor – Jean Smyth - Monday and Tuesday, February 6, 7 10:00-3:00 $77/$87/$96
This class is for those who have always wanted to try watercolor and those who have tried watercolor and want to "brush up." The basics will be emphasized. We will examine types of paper, brushes, setting up the palette, and paints. Simple techniques will be demonstrated. We will paint a floral painting on the first day and a simple landscape on the second day from your photo or examples provided. Beginner

Exploring Gouache – Christine Stackhouse – Monday, February 13 – 12:30-3:30 - $29/$33/$46
This class aims to introduce you to the versatility of Gouache 
(a more heavily pigmented watercolor). We shall look at weights 
and characteristics of different papers and how they may help to 
achieve differing results. A demonstration of preparing a work and 
some technique tips on shadowing and highlighting, and then time 
for “free play”. The only pre-requisite for this class is that you come 
with the intention of having fun!

​More Watercolor - Jean Smyth - Monday and Tuesday, March 13-14, 1:00-4:00 $58/65/72
"More Watercolor" will focus on using techniques to help control watercolor and produce a more satisfying result. Bring your own photo reference floral or landscape. How to simplify and interpret the photo will be discussed. What techniques will best "tell the story?" We will build on the previous class taught in February, but it is not a prerequisite. Beginner

Watercolor Paint-Along with Ellen – Ellen Burke – Friday, March 31, 10:00-1:00   $35/$39/$42
Learn color mixing techniques, composition, and basic watercolor process, while enjoying confidence building “follow along.”  

Multi Dimensional Silkscreen Watercolor – Level II - Cathy Brown – Wednesday and Thursday, May 10, 11, 10:00-12:00 $48/$53/$58
This class is designed to take the student to other possibilities of the medium through 1) innovative composition, 2)adjustments to the color of previous printed prints and, 3) using the prints to inspire other works. The class is fun and collaborative! You will make best Art friends! Prerequisite - 1st level Silkscreen Watercolor. Intermediate/Advanced

Watercolor on Rice Paper – Pat McMahon –Monday and Tuesday, May 15, 16, 10:00-12:00 $38/$43/$48
Come try an exciting new technique with watercolor! Since rice paper is see-through, you put the design under the rice paper and draw it with an indelible felt tip pen. Then you will be drawing with wax on the rice paper, then painting over the wax, crinkling it for texture, then finally ironing it in between newspapers to melt out the wax. The effect is awesome and one that will truly enhance your painting! All levels.

Try a new surface with colored pencils! There is more texture so we will begin by using watercolor pencils to get into the texture first followed by sharp wax pencils for the developing/finishing layers. Watercolor Board will be provided for each student. Each student should bring some options of photos to work from. Subject matter may be most any subject you enjoy. Intermediate/Advanced 

Intro to Calligraphy – Cathy Brown, Tuesday and Wednesday, April 11, 12, 10:00-12:00  $47/$52/$56
This class will provide a brief historical overview of hand lettering. The students will be instructed as to the various tools, materials, techniques and practice to create a personalized, beautiful hand lettered Nameplate. The student will also be introduced to the art form of the illuminated letter. All levels.

Drawing Basics II - Laureen Kirk, Monday and Tuesday, April 17, 18, 10:00-3:00 $82/$92/$101
In this class students will add to their drawing toolbox through an exploration of more drawing methods and mark making. An emphasis will be placed on using the element of value, value contrast and shading techniques in your drawings to create the illusion of three dimensionality. We will complete drawing exercises and a small drawing.

PASTEL

Portrait or Still Life in Pastel on PastelMat - Betty Hendrix
Wednesday, February 22, 10:00 – 4:00 $55/$61/$67
Experience working on a finely sanded sturdy support as you develop interesting shapes into an appealing pattern and finish with some strong detail. Students should bring a variety of photos to select their own subject matter. These may be a person, a still life, animals with some amount of up-close detail to use. PastelMat will be provided for each student. Beginner/Intermediate
